Guide to living in South Jerrabomberra, NSW

South Jerrabomberra is growing fast, for very good reasons. If you haven’t yet heard of it, that’s because it’s been a well-kept secret (until now!).

Locals know this area as ‘South Jerra’ and it’s also referred to as ‘Tralee’ as that was the name of the property that included this new and exciting housing development. Might this new thriving community be the ideal location for your new home?

Let’s find out all there is to know about South Jerrabomberra, NSW.

Where is South Jerrabomberra? Is it in NSW or ACT?

South Jerrabomberra is located south-west of Queanbeyan and, unsurprisingly given the name, south of Jerrabomberra, which is essentially a suburb of Queanbeyan.

South Jerra, as it’s known locally, is around 20 kilometres from the centre of Canberra and, for those who like to travel for work or play, Canberra Airport.

You’ll find your home in this new suburb located between Queanbeyan and Tralee. Central Queanbeyan is just 10 kilometres away and Canberra is around double that.

Which state is South Jerra located in? New South Wales.

So, it’s South Jerrabomberra NSW, not South Jerrabomberra ACT. However, you can enjoy the best of both states and territories, as South Jerra is located just next to the border with the Australian Capital Territory.

Please be aware that there is a district of the ACT named just ‘Jerrabomberra’ (which includes the Jerrabomberra Wetlands). We’re sure that’s a lovely area too but we know that South Jerrabomberra, NSW, is going to be one of the most family-friendly new developments around!

How do you pronounce Jerrabomberra?

Because this is Australia and we like to pronounce words in a laid-back way, Jerrabomberra isn’t pronounced with equal emphasis on each syllable. So, instead of ‘Jerra-bom-berra’ (which is how you might assume it’s sounded), try something more like ‘Jerra-bombra’.

And, because it’s Australia and we love to shorten names, many people simply use the convenient and easy to pronounce nickname of ‘Jerra’.

What are the benefits of living in South Jerrabomberra?

When you live in South Jerra, you have all the advantages of city life with Canberra right nearby and the outdoors right on your doorstep with all the beauty offered by the Jerrabomberra Mountain Reserve and the nearby Googong Dam (see the Leisure section below for more details of hiking trails).

South Jerra is a suburb that will be all about family living. That’s because the new area will soon be home to around 1500 households, filled with families big and small. That’s why parklands, nature walks, and playgrounds will be much-loved aspects of the South Jerra neighbourhood.

If you’re a family who loves living in a beautiful neighbourhood as well as enjoys open spaces and top-class neighbourhood amenities, South Jerra is ideal for you.
